Making My Hope "Sign" Permanent - Tattoo #2!

Happy Friday to All!  So today is pretty special for me.  I wrote awhile back about some mixed signs that I had been experiencing and more recently I wrote about my hope sign which is seeing a hummingbird.  I want to go into this a little bit more because tonight I will be getting it permanent in tattoo form!!!

I have been thinking about this for quite awhile.  Again I have always loved hummingbirds and taken great joy in seeing them.  I put a feeder up this summer and got to enjoy them almost every day.  Anyways, when I  was considering getting a tattoo (we'll call it my hope sign tattoo) I wanted something special that really symbolized how I am feeling right now while dealing with infertility.  Well here is something I found that I thought made the hummingbird symbolize my perfect hope sign.

Hummingbirds, called new world birds cause they are native to North America, Central and South America, are considered to be symbols of peace, love and happiness, moreover, ancient pagans held them sacred for their tireless energy and anxiety.
In Native American culture, a hummingbird symbolizes timeless joy and the Nectar of Life. It's a symbol for accomplishing that which seems impossible and will teach you how to find the miracle of joyful living from your own life circumstances.
They are really spectacular birds, and have a lot to teach a person about self discovery and healing.

So tonight is very special to me.  I will share a picture of what it looks like when it is done so you will have to check back :).  There is one more key to this tattoo.  I will be getting it in black and gray only, (for now).  I want it to be a transitional tattoo that once we have resolved our infertility (have a baby, adopt a child, decide to live childfree) I will go back to get the colors filled in.  It will mark our transition to the next phase of life no matter what that ends up being.

What is your hope sign?

I think that's a beautiful idea and i especially love the idea of filling it in with colors as you move through your journey. You make me think about my hope sign - i def have a couple of hope songs and some special signs that i love when i spot but as far as one? Hmmm...makes me think.

Good luck with the tattoo! What an amazing way to symbolize your journey. I love the idea of the black and white and later the color. I absolutely love it. I know it will keep you motivated in the upcoming weeks!!
I haven't had time to write to you about IVF, but I'm so excited for you. I was incredibly nervous and didn't really know what to expect. It's so much different than the injections/pills and IUI cycles. I felt like it was so much more controlled and felt a lot more confident in the process. I hope you do too. I hope this is the answer to your prayers.
It's frightening hanging that much money on the line for a chance isn't it? That was the toughest pill for me to swallow. I have high hopes this will be what works for you!!
I can't wait to see the pics of your tattoo!
I thought about getting the word 'hope' tattooed on my foot while we were in the middle of this battle. However, I'm a wuss and never did it. Hope was also a choice for a middle name for our girl. It's the only thing you have to cling to throughout this journey. Hope is the only constant emotion that is healthy to hang on to throughout the journey.

Thanks Ladies! I'm very nervous about IVF. I had to laugh to myself while getting the tattoo and thinking man if I can handle this pain, hopefully I can handle doing all the IVF injections too. The only injection I have done is the ovidrel,(well and all the blood draws) we never did IUI with injectibles because I have always done well producing follicles. Anyways, I'm extremely happy with it and love that it will mark an event that will change my life forever.

Amber - I love that you used hope in Ella's name...so pretty!

Seagull - do you mind sharing what songs? I'm just curious if they are any of the ones that I also think about.

Cheryl - would you get another tattoo or are you done? :) I didn't think I would ever get another after my first.
